Our core activities I've been focused within the UK and Ireland since our inception. Land has been purchased in the state of Maine with the sole intention of developing a trail visitor attraction.

Client Requirement - GHMILY Literature Trail
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has taken the initiative to pay tribute to the illustrious children’s book “Guess How Much I Love You.” Authored by a local resident of Lisburn, Sam McBratney, through a public arts and literature trail. The commissioned artwork for this project has been designed to complement the unique style of illustrator Anita Jeram. The council has offered funding for a sculpture trail, worksheets, and a digital app to make this project successful.
In addition to this, the council has also allocated extra funds to revamp the Haslem Lane area. This is located in the heart of the city centre. Unfortunately, this particular area was tired with graffiti on its walls. However, the council is determined to turn it around and make it a beautiful part of the city again.
Our Approach
Three elaborate chainsaw-carved wooden benches and a bronze sculpture were crafted as part of the ‘Public Art and Literature Trail’ in Lisburn City Centre.
To make the experience more engaging, we have created two trails - the ‘Little Nutbrown Hare Trail’ and the ‘Big Nutbrown Hare Trail’. Each trail has eight zinc rubbing plaques that users can complete in the worksheets provided. These worksheets feature a cross-fold setup with a specially designed city map. Artistic & digital enhancements
Firstly, to help guide users around each point of interest, we have developed an app. This app includes quiz questions and an audio recording of Sam McBratney reading the book. Ultimately, adding a delightful and commemorative touch to the experience.
Five arches stand on Haslems Lane, and adorning them with five murals depicting iconic scenes from a beloved book would be fitting. Local artist Dean Kane expertly stencilled the artwork and added his creative touch. Client Requirement
The Armagh Observatory and Planetarium is located close to the city centre of Armagh and covers approximately fourteen acres of land known as the Armagh Astropark. Within the Astropark, visitors can explore various structures, such as the Hill of Infinity and the Human Sun Dial. Visitors could also use their previous limited app alongside their AR markers during their visit.
On our initial visit, we had the pleasure of meeting the Planetarium's project manager and scientists. It was a great experience to tour the premises, exchange ideas, and gain a deeper understanding of their vision. From our conversation, we discovered that they were keen on designing an interactive app to amplify the Astropark adventure. Furthermore, given the Planetarium's frequent school visits, they planned to construct an outdoor area where children could learn about space.
Our Approach - Armagh Observatory
The lead designer gathered ideas and developed concepts for outdoor trails for both kids and adults in Astropark. We created mood boards, mock-ups, and visuals to showcase the possibilities of how it would look in the park. We also worked on determining the routes and how to utilise the entire site best.
The Planetarium team carefully reviewed and decided on a space-themed trail for children in the form of a storybook. The trail would feature large sculptures, an interactive workbook, and colourful markers to engage young visitors. An app with audio, augmented reality elements, and mobile games would also be available. The adult trail, would then provide educational content with augmented reality to enhance the experience.
At Brilliant Trails, the design team worked on the sculpture design simultaneously with the chainsaw carvers who were creating the large sculptures. The Planetarium team was also part of the process and provided updates and input on the sculpture's progress. The digital enhancements
Our goal in developing the app was to ensure that users of different languages could access it easily. We also added a chat bot to provide a more personalized experience. Armagh Planetarium was particularly impressed by the video guide, which was a unique and valuable addition to the app's audio descriptions.
The Armagh Planetarium app has interactive AR features that make the kids' and adult trails more exciting. Armagh Observatory & Planetarium Outcome
The Brilliant Trails team completed the design and printed the necessary artwork for installation. It took the installation team four days to fit the 11 markers, sculptures, and outdoor classroom, which included seating and a blackboard. To enhance the Planetarium's entrance, a local artist named Dean Kane from Visual Waste was brought in to spray paint an image of space.
The team at Armagh Observatory and Planetarium is ecstatic about the outcome of their project. They have enhanced their Astopark to offer a space for children to discover and gain knowledge about space while outdoors. Client Requirement
The Abbotsford Estate Heritage Team approached Brilliant Trails to design an interactive sculpture trail along with an app that tells the folkloric tales of Sir Walter Scott. The Abbotsford Team requested a darker approach to the fairy trails and wanted us to incorporate the eerie and magical stories from Sir Walter Scott's tales.
Our Approach
The Abbotsford Team provided us with several books by Sir Walter Scott to help us understand his writing style and the desired tone for the trail. Using this knowledge, we developed multiple concepts, including illustration styles, colour palettes, as well as numerous panel and booklet designs, and illustrated assets. We collaborated with the team through virtual meetings and emails to perfect the trail's direction and Witch Corner branding. Once the concept was approved, we sent briefs to the illustrators and carvers, and the trail began to take shape.
Our team worked on creating an interactive panel design, activity booklet, and app for the Witch Corner Trail using assets we acquired and created. Instead of a continuous story, the Abbotsford Heritage Team decided to share snippets of 12 pieces of Sir Walter Scott's writings. The panels feature intricate illustrations that depict the tale being told, while the booklet contains a description, a map of the site, activities on each page, a spell to find, and space to write your own magic spell. Once the panels and book were confirmed, we developed the new Abbotsford App, which included additional content and imagery, including audio files, about the Witch Corner Trail, Estate, House & Gardens. The app also allowed users to book into future events hosted at Abbotsford. Trail Outcome at Abbotsford Estate
Witch Corner is a new sculpture trail themed around the folktales and legends that enchanted the region's most famous author, Sir Walter Scott. Inspired by Sir Walter Scott, Witch Corner includes twelve story stops with sculptures and interactive panels, which coinciding children's activity booklets with activities to complete and clues to solve at each story stop are included in the experience. As part of the project for Abbotsford, we also developed the Abbotsford app to complement the Witch Corner Trail and provide more in-depth information on the origins and development of each legend or folktale, including an audio guide for adult visitors.
Witch Corner is a new way to experience Sir Walter Scott's storytelling which will be popular with visitors to the region and local communities alike. The project took off with a site visit and a trail route designed to suit the site. From there, we collaborated with the Abbotsford Heritage Team via online meetings and connecting over emails.
The Witch Corner trail was designed in collaboration with the Abbotsford Heritage Team to ensure continuity with the folkloric tales of Sir Walter Scott.
